Updates on Implementation Progress

Keep an eye out for a survey that Mr. Rosen will send out soon asking teachers to select the academy they would like to work with next year.  Even though this change will only really affect tenth grade teachers, we woud like the whole faculty to participate since teaching assignments have not been determined as of yet for 2008-2009. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask one of the design team members.

Thank you to Mr. Cole for facilitating the sign up of all 9th graders on the Department of Florida’s EPEP electronic portfolios.

The 9th grade team teachers have been working very closely in planning their first interdisciplinary project.  This group has been meeting the first Wednesday of the month and the Early Release Days, when possible, since school started.   They have been flexible and professional in dealing with the challenges of learning how to accomodate the ideal of having four teams to the reality of trying to place approximately 980 students into ”pure” teams.  Now our four team leaders have taken on a strong role in focusing the academy to accomplishing their first goal of an interdisciplinary project. They have taken on, with the support of the Academy teachers, the challenge of planning this project as a whole entity.  Mathematics and Science will be teaming up on March 25th for their first “Plague” Day while Social Studies and Language Arts will host the Academy’s first “Renaissance Fair” on March 20th.  Mrs. Gans and Ms. Otero, the Academy Leader, are both very supportive of this upcoming freshman experience.
